O’Brock Windmill Distributors History
2018 marks 50 years we have been in the water pumping windmill business. It all started in1968 because we bought a farm that had a windmill standing. It was an 8 ft diameter Model 702 Aermotor on a 40 ft F&W tower and I wanted to find a local dealer to get it working so we could use it to water our growing herd of dairy goats and we had started also raising some beef cattle. There were no windmill dealers within about 65 miles and they were Amish and just worked in their local area. So, Aermotor made me a dealer as did The Heller-Aller Co.in western Ohio where they made Baker windmills. In a few years I got good at repairing and installing windmills and Aermotor asked me to be a distributor, then the existing dealers started getting their windmills and parts from me. We have shipped windmills to many countries. Even though I was a distributor, I still went out and installed windmills all over the country and outside of the country. My wife Sharen traveled with me and helped with the installations.
Windmill uses
We have sold and installed windmills for many applications. The main ones are pumping fresh water for cattle and other livestock. Many ranches around the country have thousands of acres and it would not be practical or cost effective to run power lines for many miles through rough terrain to run electric pumps. Keeping farm ponds full and aerated, for fire protection and recreation. Water supply for irrigation, filling spray tanks, primary and back up water supply for homes and farms. There were also several environmental projects we did.
We have modified and installed windmills for companies like Phillips Petroleum,to pump oil from drilling sites. Union Carbide,to bubble air into the aquifer to oxidize hazardous chemicals at a capped landfill. Amoco Oil Company, to skim oil from the ground water at a large refinery. Dupont Chemical company, to suck vapors from a hazardous waste landfill. Garbage dumps in Michigan and Indiana to pump leachate.
